Joel Colvos

With my family, I search Puget Sound beaches for marine debris that I collect and transform into artworks. Although not all my materials come from the sea, they are sourced from places where they would otherwise be discarded The histories of these materials are reflected in my work, sparking curiosity, speculation, and imagination. I attach and paint the scraps of materials in various ways, often retaining their original weathered character and feel. The final pieces are assembled intuitively, with multiple pieces worked on simultaneously.
